Why Scarborough didn’t go to CBS

Joe and Mika were very, very close to jumping to CBS. Why’d they stay at MSNBC? Here’s what they told TV critics over the weekend, according to theĀ N.Y. Daily News:

PASADENA - TV host Joe Scarborough says what finally convinced him to keep his “Morning Joe” program on MSNBC last year was a talk with his cohost Mika Brzezinski’s father.
Scarborough told TV critics here Saturday that it was “not true … well, maybe a little bit true” that when his MSNBC contract ran out last year, he was approached by CBS and other networks.
“We talked to a lot of people,” said Scarborough. And one of them, he said, was Zbigniew Brzezinski, Mika’s father and one-time national security advisor under President Jimmy Carter.
“He said to me, ‘If you go over there, can you interview me for 15 minutes?’ And I said, ‘No, probably not.’ And he said, ‘Stay where you are, then.’ “
Scarborough, echoed by Mika Brzezinski, said the freedom to stay flexible with the show’s structure, and not have a tight, rigid format was ultimately a deciding factor.
